Mitch was born in 1975. Raised in Smooth Rock Falls, a small town in Northern Ontario, Canada. I am a husband, father, singer/songwriter/producer, live performer and a music instructor. Growing up, he had one goal in mind. And that was to be a musician and create music.
Started guitar lessons he was 12 years old and quickly started to perform for his classmates and teachers. In high school his music teacher was a mentor and taught him how to work with a team of musicians. After several high school performances, a local group called “Rock Side” approached Mitch to join them. "These guys were in their 30’s! I was excited because all the locals knew them. I was now 17 and getting paid to play." For two years they played many clubs and events in our region. In 1995 I enrolled in the Cambrian college music program in Sudbury, Ontario. I did one year but decided that classical guitar wasn’t for me. I wanted to produce and perform. So I decided to go back home and rethink my future. I joined another local band, started to write and performed again for about a year.
I then found myself stuck with a belief that being a musician is not the responsible thing to do. So I moved to Cochrane, Ontario (my current town) taking a job for a commercial/industrial construction company that quickly turned into a 20 year career. I worked my way up the corporate ladder and started a family. I was still playing shows with various musicians but nothing serious. By 2014 our nest started to empty and I had reached the top of the company and found myself with a feeling of lack of purpose and regrets. So I followed my heart and co-founded a new group called “Kickback Tracii” to somewhat satisfy my musical cravings. Kickback Tracii was a rock cover band for the first year until I decided to leave my 20 year career and become a full time musician in 2016. I decided to start myself a music teaching business and try to advance the band to the next level. The teaching business established itself very fast due to the high demand and the fact that I brought my services in schools. For the band, from 2016 to 2018 Kickback Tracii independently released three singles and played regional shows. But despite our good progress, the other band members didn’t share the same vision as I did. So I decided to resign and start my own solo project. I released my first single "Sweet Summertime So Fine" in May 2018. The single was received very well and aired on rotation at several regional radio stations. I also enrolled myself into several training courses to better my writing and marketing skills. I joined Rick Barker’s Music Industry Blueprint Program, the Songwriting Academy with Martin Sutton and Songwriting Masterclasses through SAC (Songwriter’s Association of Canada) with Andrew Allen and Rob Wells. Jan 2019, “Feel The Rain” was released. A song I wrote for my father. The track was produced by myself and recorded at Jukasa Studios by Juno award winning engineers Darren Magierowski and Jill Zimmermann. The single made it in the top 100 songs during the 2019 CBC Music Canada Searchlight Competition. June 2019, "Horse" was released, partly recorded at 705 Studios and mixed by Darren Magierowski from Jukasa Studios. And that kicked off my 2019 summer regional festival tour. January-February 2020, show dates were getting booked and I was working on my next song demos. The day I was heading to the studio to record the next single, I heard the news of Covid-19. I didn’t think much of it at glance but soon my business as a teacher in all schools was gone and all my performance bookings were cancelled. May 2020 I released my fourth single "Paper Crown King". A song I wrote for a childhood friend of mine that lost his battle with leukemia. Produced by myself and recorded by Adam Fair at Juno award winning Villasounds Studio, the song reached top finalist for “Best Modern Country Song” at the World Songwriting Awards. It is also a fan favorite. Despite how Covid-19 affected me I immediately shifted my efforts in growing my business by utilising the power of social media to reach and grow my followers and fan base. I have recently joined Willow Sound Records for their consultation, mentoring and coaching services designed for independent artists. My new mentor/coach Tara Shannon is an award winning songwriter and artist that thrive to help artists such as myself get through these tough times that we musicians face during this pandemic. I am also part of the Indepreneur.co Independent Artist Development Program to gain knowledge in social media marketing. With Willow Sound Records, I am getting ready to release my 5th single called “All I Ever Need”. A song I wrote reflecting my life transformation experience mentioned above. A message to follow your dreams. We are scheduled to release the song this coming October 23rd .
